 Virtual modular platform for designed custom garments – VirtMod

Aim of the proposed work:

The aim of the project is to develop new, innovative and interactive garments design and production system able to respond to several aspects of customized garments for healthcare sports and disabled people.

The main objectives are:

1. Creating a virtual platform to integrate the following modules:

- a special library of basic models correlated with the body type, type of disabilities, health care and sports specific model clothing; access to the library can be made by any company across Europe, through a simple registration;

-3D body scanning system to obtain anthropometric data;

- a set of anthropometric measurement tools, easily used by people who have no access to 3D scanner (alternative to scan measuring);

- a library with the functional textiles, eco-textiles and their characteristics;

- an innovative software, solution for automatic patterns design based on a new type of algorithm, new rules designing , that make optimal correspondence between pattern and body, from the stage of the construction patterns;

- producers who can manufacture the products;

-  a customer interface.

2. Developing a new innovative design and process for production service system for customized clothing, characterized by reduced time design, eliminate the stages of verification and adjustment patterns on body client, implemented and tested in real industrial environments.

Expected results of the proposed work:

The important result of the project is the new innovative and interactive garments design and production system that will increase the number of manufacturers for this market niche of customized clothing for health care and sport clothing.

The expected results of the project consist in:

- the library of basic clothing models correlated with the body type, type of disabilities, health care and sports; The library will be updated periodically once, designers and manufacturers engaged in the system will create new models based on customer needs;

- a method and instruments for direct measurement of the body;

- a software for automatic customized design patterns.

Expertise needed:

The envisage partnership consist in:

- an IT company with expertise in developing virtual platform;

- a clothing company pilot to implement the  manufacture system;

- research institute with expertise clothing design;

- stylists and designers to create the clothing models.
