Abstract:
Natural dyes have become a part of human life since immemorial time.
Currently there is a re-introduction of natural dyes which, compared with synthetic dyes, exhibit higher biodegradability, environment compatibility, lower toxicity.
The main focus of the research proposal is the study of pre-treatments, with the aim of improving natural dye.
Project Description:
Previous research works have demonstrated that the enzymatic treatments could modify the fibre surface enhancing the accessibility to organic molecules in water medium, without affecting the bulk morphological characteristics and the mechanical behaviour of the fibres.
In the research project we will study the possibility to improve natural dyeing processes on natural fibres (both animal and vegetable fibres), in order to discover new possible natural ways of industrial natural dyeing and obtain natural yarns.
Development Stage: Feasibility studies of enzymatic pre-treatment as eco-friendly natural dyeing process of animal and vegetable fibres.
Type of Project: Industrial R&D
Keywords:Natural dyes, herbs, enzymes, natural dyeing
Organisation type Industry SME:
Business profile: Dyeing company
Role in the project: technology owner, project leader, dyeing development and prototyping, company premises in Biella-Piemonte, member of the Piedmont Textile Innovation Cluster.
Target partner expertise sought:
Production of yarn and fabric prototypes to be subjected to enzymatic dyeing.
Role in the project: application specifications, experimental assessment of dyed and validation of innovative products (spinning, weaving and manufacturing from naturally dyed fibers).
